10:30am- An Organized Household vs. Hoarding: The Quiet, Messy Secret Your home looks like a page out of Pinterest, right?  Probably not!  With work, family, social engagements and other obligations, how do you maintain an organized home? Did you know being disorganized can actually COST you money?  I’ll show you how to organize your home and keep it that way! On the flip side, Compulsive Hoarding is a mental illness recognized by American Psychiatric Association.  Whether it is you or a loved one there are ways to approach the situation.  Sheila will discuss different approaches aimed to help those involved.   Sheila and the Blue Nest Home staff, have been on the A&E show HOADERS! three times.  Sheila is a member of the National Association of Professional Organizers (NAPO) and is the past Marketing Director for the Seattle Chapter. Through NAPO, she has completed training on various organizing, productivity and time management techniques.

Tile, Solid Surface, natural stone & Quartz surfaces are now available in almost an unlimited range of colors, textures & shapes. Bill Wyman, owner of Creative Countertops, has over 23 years of experience in the industry,and has evolved into one of the leading local experts in the counter top field.  He has been a member & leader of various trade organizations such as ISSFA (International Solid Surface Fabricators Association), the Marble Institute of America & charter member of the local NKBA (National Kitchen & Bath Association) chapter. Also he frequently travels to Brazil to visit quarries & factories, to hand select granite to be imported into the USA. He has successfully led Creative Countertops sales growth each year, over the last 15 years to become the largest fabricator on the peninsula.

2:00pm- Kitchen Remodels. Ask the Expert! Come prepared with your questions on kitchen and bath remodeling. Topics include: What costs constitute your budget, frequent overlooked cost components, basic approaches to setting a budget, and the intersection of cost vs value and how to stay on budget.  Molly Erin McCabe, AKBD, CLIPP, CGP, CAPS, an award-winning designer and general contractor, is the principal designer and co-owner of A Kitchen That Works™ LLC. Ms. McCabe has published numerous articles and has lectured locally and nationally on design and construction. She has contributed as a Subject Matter Expert for the US Green Building Council’s, is a member of the Thermador Design Council, was a founding Board Member and past President of both the Olympic West Sound Chapter of the National Kitchen and Bath Association and the Kitsap Chapter of the NW Ecobuilding Guild and is the current chair of the Kitsap Building Associations Remodelers Council. Ms. McCabe is an active member of her community volunteering with youth and teens, environmental groups and other not-for-profit community groups through projects and Board participation.

3:00pm- Bolt it Down! : This course is back once again by popular demand! Is your home securely fastened to your foundation? Presenters from Simpson StrongTie will explain how to do a home evaluation, navigate the permitting permits and explain how to properly bolt and plate a home. Even a small shake can cause significant damage. Bolt it down and save your home from seismic damage. This course is offered in partnership with Kitsap County Department of Emergency Management, Olympic Peninsula Chapter of the ICC, Kitsap Building Association, the jurisdictional building departments throughout Kitsap County, and Simpson Strong-Tie.

11:00am- Aging in Place: Author of “Aging in Place” Aaron D. Murphy brings his passion, expertise and sense of humor to this seminar. He will be bringing his 17 years of experience in commercial and residential design, and permitting to discuss the future of residential housing related to the bulging “Baby Boomer” population, and how we can live a longer happier life by staying in our own home as long as possible. He has recently spoke at the national and state level for the American Society on Aging’s  “Aging in America” conference in Chicago and in November as the BIAW keynote speaker for the 50+ sector.

12:30pm- Spin Your Meter Backwards: Join Andy Cochrane, President of Power Trip Energy for this informative session about Solar for your home. Solar is an option you should seriously consider and can benefit from. Andy will walk you through the basics including terminology, technology, and how it will “payback” over time. When you leave you will know important information about solar as an option, what actions to take immediately, and how to select a contractor for the job. If you have ever considered solar, you should take the time to attend this seminar.

2:00pm- Smart Home Technology: You are smarter than you think! Allison Falk from Seattle Lighting will discuss practical uses for “smart technology”. Whether you are using it for security, HVAC, settings for tasks, meal prep or aging in place, she can educate you on how to decide what devices and technology is best suited for your lifestyle, how to acquire systems and who you may need to help.  Attendees will walk away with a foundation of knowledge in smart technology and can use this education to begin discussions with suppliers of systems and devices to begin implementing this technology in their new or existing homes.
